Work From Home Resume Tips

Work from home jobs, like other types of jobs, are alot easier to get with the right strategy.  One of the most powerful tools in any job search is the resume.  But in the virtual environment, it becomes even more important because it may take the place of a job interview.

Here are important elements your resume should have if you're pursuing a telecommuting position:

Work From Home Experience.

If you've ever worked from home before, be sure that's clear in your resume.  Employers know that if you've worked from your home before successfully, you are far more likely to do it again successfully.

Your Special Work From Home Assets.

Let your potential virtual employer know about all the assets you have to make you a valuable virtual labor asset. If you have any of the following, mention them in your resume:  Designated home office, high speed internet, internet phone, fax machine, printer, scanner, quiet work environment, any security assets, backup systems, printers, other peripherals, multi-line phones, voicemail, adding machine, software, especially MS Office and any software typically used by your profession or industry, a company, insurance.

Description of independent and virtual performance.

Assuming it's true, mention how you achieved specific projects as a virtual component of a team, how you communicated by email, experience with conference calls, etc. Job descriptions of virtual jobs can sound different than traditional jobs.  Depending on the work from home job you're applying for, your boss will want to know you have a track record in either working independently without supervision and/or working virtually on a team successfully.

Availability.

By specifically informing your potential employer what hours you are available (which can mean how many hours per week, not what specific hours you want to work), you are telling him or her that you realize this is real work, not a goof off hobby, and they know what to expect from you.
