Tom Cruise, Hollywood Greed and My Little Work from Home JobBy Audreena Anderson for Work-from-Home.org I know, it’s an interesting headline, but it’s an even more interesting work from home job. Let’s face it… I’m a work from home junkie… The SnoopDog of home-based employment… It’s my compulsion and that’s just how it is. I keep trying to give it up and find other things that interest me, but then I come across this kind of scintillating work from home tidbit and I find myself being sucked right back in. I know I’ve said this before, but this is one of my favorite home jobs… I discovered it where I find most of the best-of-the-best work from home jobs on the internet, moneyfromhome.com. My new favorite is a rough job. I work completely unsupervised and GET PAID TO GO TO THE MOVIES. Sometimes I get paid to take note of what trailer (preview) is showing. Sometimes I get paid to go to the sneak previews! On a really hard day, I count how many seats are occupied at the theatre. I escape from my husband and kids for a while to “work” at the theatre. When I’m done “working” (code for chomping down a large size of buttered popcorn), I go home to the husband and kids I already miss, plunk myself down on my PC and submit my report. That’s it. I get paid by the project. I can’t retire on it, but without it, I sure couldn’t get paid to go to the movies! Apparently I owe my fun hobby, I mean, my serious work at home job, to the likes of Tom Cruise and all those big-time movie executives and promoters. As it turns out, whether those previews are shown or not can make or break a new movie and one of Hollywood’s greatest passions is trying to get those previews shown as often and in front of as many people as possible. Apparently those Hollywood types don’t trust each other very much either, which is a good thing for me, because if they did, I wouldn’t have a job. Some people call me and my movie-going colleagues the Truth Squad. Some famous stars and directors have been known to try to discover where their trailers are being shown on their own, often resulting in what’s called a “panic call”, such as the one that resulted last year when one theatre learned Tom Cruise was coming to their theatre to watch the trailer of his new film “Collateral” when they hadn’t planned on running it. By the end of that panic call, Tom Cruise’s trailer for “Collateral” actually showed in the theatre when he got there. According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, the movie industry spends more time booking trailers than booking movies. And luck for me there’s apparently a very low trust level… that’s why they hire me, the truth squad. And I’m more than happy to keep getting paid to gobble down popcorn, count seats in the theatre and get paid to watch movies! |
